Admiralty and maritime law encompasses the laws of the high seas, and the operation of vessels on the high seas and brown water. Maritime cases can involve a complex interplay of laws, based upon where a ship was flagged, where it was last docked, whether it is in international waters, international treaties, contract law, and other factors.
